Boral selects Ahrens to deliver the encapsulation buildings for its Deer Park project, one of the largest hard-rock operations in Australia.
As a result of the ongoing criticality of the quarry as a major part of Boral’s Melbourne supply chain, the decision was made to replace the processing plant with a modern facility that took into account the best practices and technology available from around the world. This would help the client reduce operational noise and dust generation, two issues commonly associated with quarry activities.
Desiring to enhance product yield, Boral chose Ahrens to design and construct four encapsulation buildings for its crushing and screening operations. This included the primary, secondary, tertiary and quaternary process plants.
The intended purpose of the buildings was to provide encapsulation of dust from crushing and screening operations, weather protection for general operations, as well as noise attenuation where noise emitting points in the processing stream were clad with reinforced materials.

Scope of works included the supply and installation of all structural steel and cladding, roller doors, overhead remote-controlled service cranes, and appropriate ventilation. With the ability to locally design, fabricate and detail its own structural steel and components at its in-house manufacturing facility, Ahrens could dramatically reduce planning and construction time.
This building package formed part of the Deer Park Quarry Plant Replacement Project (DPQPRP), a cost effective crushing and screening operation utilising modern, proven plant and equipment capable of delivering the specified mix of products.
Ahrens could provide a complete range of in-house project services and cost-effective solutions, and this was the competitive advantage that was key in the delivery of this project.
The team worked tirelessly to deliver the facility within five months, despite time constraints and client requirements. With Ahrens’ position as a leading construction and steel services company, the team can provide continued excellence for clients like Boral to keep them coming back.
The successful delivery of this project will assist Boral to maintain its position as a major supplier to the western Melbourne market for many years to come.
