BHP has awarded a plant construction contract for its $4.8 billion iron ore South Flank project in the Pilbara, Western Australia.
Perth-based engineering company Clough will build the plant 130 kilometres north-west of Newman.
Its contract scope includes structural, mechanical, piping, electrical and instrumentation for the ore handling plant structures, such as interconnecting conveyors and transfer stations.
Clough will create 300 new roles during delivery of the contract, which will be self-performed by the company’s Western Australian-based team.

Clough chief executive and managing director, Peter Bennett said the company is pleased to continue growing its relationship with BHP on the South Flank project and in the WA mining sector.
BHP is developing the South Flank project to fully replace production from the 80 million tonne per annum Yandi mine, which is reaching the end of its economic life.
Engineering company Monadelphous announced yesterday that it had been awarded a $108 million construction works contract at South Flank.
