Bonfiglioli to host heavy-duty webinar

Giorgio Rodriguez

Bonfiglioli Australia and New Zealand will host a webinar on 16 October to assist customers with gearbox selections for heavy duty applications.

Application Engineer, Giorgio Rodriguez the session will shed light on Bonfiglioli’s product selection and commonly asked application questions.

The webinar aims to provide education to customers that are working remotely and will include quick links and clever hacks to help attendees identify the right product for the application.

It will also include a demonstration of online tools and tips and tricks to overcome common selection errors.

Rodriguez said in a statement that education is key to ensure customers knows the quickest and most effective way to make selections and what brief their designers need when a special product request has to be made.

“During the selection process, a host of possible scenarios should be considered,” he said.

“If the selection is made with little information, it could lead to costly downtime. To determine the correct gearbox, we need to consider the duty cycle of the application, evaluate the type of application and the loads involved.”

Beyond torque and ratio requirements, Rodriguez said that factors such as the geographical area, altitude, climatic conditions, direct sun exposure and general environment should be considered in the selection process.

“Gearboxes in heavy duty applications are some of the most hard-working components you will find on site. The environment in which they operate is a key consideration when making a selection,” he said.

“We customise our gearboxes to ensure that they are suitable for different environments and an array of requirements. Our end goal is to provide a high-performance, long-lasting gearbox to meet our customer’s objectives.”

Gearbox maintenance tips

In order to proper running the gearbox, Rodriguez’s top four tips for customers are as follows:

  • Conduct a visual check: Make sure that there are no variations on the position and outlooking of the gearbox due to high vibrations or shock load during its operation over the years.
  • Sound Impact control: Check that the noise level is within the standard of the gearbox specifications. A decibel meter is supposed to be used at 1 metre distance away from the drive. If the noise level is above 85 decibels during the operation, that implies the drive is running out of the standard condition.
  • Temperature monitoring: Check the oil temperature through an internal sensor (if available) or surface temperature with an infrared thermometer. If the result exceeds what we declared, it means that something internally doesn’t work in the proper way.
  • Oil change: Be sure to change oil at regular intervals (as per IOM) and with the recommended oil type.

“We believe that this webinar will address common challenges that customers in the heavy-duty industry face and we look forward to hosting customers from both Australia and New Zealand,” Rodriguez said.
