ContiTech leader to outline conveyor belt innovation outlook

ContiTech

Dr Jenny Yu, a senior leader at Continental ContiTech, is set to provide an in-depth assessment of conveyor belt reinforcement technologies, as the bulk handling sector continues to prioritise durability, efficiency and sustainability.

Yu is currently Conveying Solutions APAC head of product development and Hydrogen Tech Centre APAC director, and brings nearly three decades of experience in materials engineering and industrial product development.

Her plenary presentation, titled Conveyor Belt Reinforcement Review and Outlook, is expected to examine current material trends, performance requirements and emerging innovations shaping conveyor systems used across mining and bulk handling operations.

Yu began her career with ContiTech in the United States after completing a PhD in Materials Engineering in 1997. She spent 18 years across the company’s technology centres in Ohio, including Marysville, Akron and Fairlawn, where she held several senior research and development roles.

These included Advanced Materials R&D Manager, Director of the R&D Technology Center and Head of Hydraulics and Industrial Hose Americas. During this period, her technical work was recognised with the company’s Inventor of the Year Award in 2001.

In 2017, Yu relocated to Asia to lead research and development for ContiTech China, marking a shift toward expanding the company’s innovation footprint in the region. She oversaw the establishment of the China Materials R&D Center in 2019, followed by the launch of ContiTech’s first Hydrogen Energy and Fuel Cell Technology Center in 2020.

Her work in advanced materials and product development has since been recognised through multiple internal awards across China, APAC and global divisions.

Yu’s upcoming presentation is likely to focus on how material science advancements are improving conveyor belt strength, wear resistance and lifecycle performance, as well as how these developments align with broader industry trends such as decarbonisation and energy efficiency.
