CST Mass and Volume Measurement System wins Innovative Technology award

Control Systems Technology (CST) has won the Bulk Handling Innovative Technology Award 2024 for its Mass and Volume Measurement System.

Control Systems Technology (CST) has won the Bulk Handling Innovative Technology Award 2024 for its Mass and Volume Measurement System.

The award was presented as part of the 2024 Australian Bulk Handling Awards, which celebrates individuals and organisations excelling in the bulk handling sector.

The awards recognise excellence in categories such as Innovative Technology, Bulk Handling Facility of the Year, Supplier of the Year, the ASBSH Award, and the AW Roberts Award.

The award highlights CST’s commitment to pushing the boundaries of bulk material handling solutions.

Australia is a global leader in the production and export of bulk materials including minerals, ores, agricultural produce, energy resources, and precious metals. Accurate weighing is essential at every stage of gathering, moving, and transporting these billions of tonnes of material.

CST’s Conveyor Mass and Volume Measuring System offers a game-changing solution to meet these needs.

The system integrates Lidar volumetric laser scanning technology with CST’s high-accuracy belt weigher and custom software. The result is a comprehensive measurement tool that not only tracks material tonnage and volume but also provides key insights such as instant and average material density, belt tracking, and wear data—all updated continuously for enhanced operational efficiency.

The system integrates a volumetric scanner on CST’s retractable scanner mounting frame, with CST’s industry leading belt weigher system via the CST’s MaVIS-ICS-ARM integrator software. This connects to the site networks via Profibus, Modbus TCP, Ethernet, Devicenet or Profinet.

The result is a system that not only accurately measures tonnage and volume but can also measure product quality via KG/M3 data as a cumulative figure, instantaneous figure, or averaged batch figures.

Ian Burrell, CEO of CST, expressed his gratitude in receiving the award.

“We are honoured to be recognised for our innovation in bulk handling,” he said.

“Our Mass and Volume Measurement System exemplifies CST’s commitment to developing state-of-the-art solutions that enhance operational accuracy, productivity, and safety for our clients worldwide.”

The company has also pioneered numerous technological advancements, including the IntelliRoll, a weighing system built into a single roller, and the Close Spaced Roller Rack (CSRR), designed for long or high-tension conveyors.

With more than 3000 global installations, CST’s systems are known for their precision and trade-certified units with proven accuracy.

“We work closely with our customers to meet a wide range of belt weighing needs—from selecting the right technology to providing ongoing maintenance support,” Burrell said.

“With a large service team and support networks based in Canada/USA, Peru, Chile, Indonesia, Korea and Kazakstan, CST is proud to offer worldwide reach and support for our products and installations.”
