Downer wins $400m gold contract

Engineering and services firm Downer rounded out its 2017 announcing a $400 million deal to provide mining services at the Gruyere Gold Project in south-central WA.

The deal will commence early in 2018, and will last five years at the gold mine, which is located roughly 200 kilometres east of Laverton in WA.

Gruyere is a 50:50 joint venture between Gold Road Resources and Gold Fields.

Downer said it would build haul roads, stockpiles and other infrastructure as part of the contract, along with drilling and blasting work, loading and haulage of ore and waste, run of mine feed, and technical services.

“Downer is very pleased to have been awarded this contract,” chief executive Grant Fenn said.

“It will also build on our extensive operations in Western Australia, which includes providing mining services at the nearby Sunrise Dam gold mine as well as at Roy Hill, Cape Preston and Karara iron ore mines.”
