Engineers Australia has sent a delegation to Europe to strengthen the organisation’s international relations.
Engineer’s Australia CEO Romilly Madew AO and Board Chair and National President Nick Fleming will travel to Denmark, Dublin, Cambridge, and London from August 19.
Madew said the pair will spend 12 days meeting industry leading companies and engineering experts and to learn more about leading international practice and innovation.
“We’ll be attending meetings and site visits with industry leaders that will give us valuable insight into European engineering innovations and processes,” she said.
Starting in Copenhagen Madew and Fleming will meet with representatives from software engineering company, Systematic, who design solutions for defence, police, and health. Following that, they will meet with leaders from DOLL Living Lab, a smart cities technology demonstration company.

They will tour Amager Resource Center, a recycling business based in Denmark, before meeting the Australian Ambassador and executive directors at Aalborg University.
On their final day in Denmark, a site tour of the University of Denmark’s Skylab workshop will provide them an example of a cross-disciplinary learning environment used by students, institutes, and start-ups.
Across six days in England Madew and Fleming will meet with representatives from Laing O’Rourke. They will visit the Laing O’Rourke Centre of Excellence for Modern Construction, Centre for Construction Engineering and Technology and Centre for Smart Infrastructure and Construction. They will also tour one of the company’s projects ‘Two Fifty-One’ which is one of Europe’s tallest precast buildings.
Meetings will also be held with officials from the Imperial College London, WSP, the UK Green Building Council, London Engineering and Design Institute, Engineering UK, Engineering Council, Institution of Civil Engineers, the UK Nuclear Institute and Engineering UK. The pair will also meet the Deputy Head Mission for Australia at the High Commission in London, and Engineers Ireland in Dublin.
They will also attend roundtables featuring industry leaders from across Europe, including Arcadis and the Australia-United Kingdom Chamber of commerce.
The trip will be the first time Engineers Australia representatives have travelled to Europe post-COVID.
