ABHR learns how the 15th International Conference on Bulk Materials Handling ( ICBMH ) will support the sector.
Researchers from across the world will meet in Fremantle, Western Australia, to continue a tradition that has been ongoing for more than 40 years.
The congregation will discuss the science behind a sector vital to modern life but often ignored: bulk solids handling.
Storing and transporting bulk solids materials is a complex science, with a range of different methods and requirements. One application may require very small quantities of material to be handled gently, whereas another may require moving vast amounts of abrasive, heavy materials.
International Conference on Bulk Materials Handling ( ICBMH ) conference manager Danielle Harris said this diversity is particularly evident in Australia, where the wide-ranging nature and scale of operations are somewhat unique.
“Advancements continue in the development, research and implementation of the many aspects of bulk materials storage, handling and transportation,” she said.
“This conference will provide an excellent forum for practitioners, researchers and designers to come together to review and exchange ideas.”
The conference is designed to provide a forum for practitioners, researchers and designers to review and exchange ideas and experiences on established, new and emerging technologies with professionals who deal with bulk materials daily, both nationally and internationally.
Around 120 delegates from Australia, Brazil, China, Germany, the Netherlands, India, New Zealand, the USA, and the UK presented over 90 papers at the 2019 conference. All papers are peer-reviewed by an international panel of experts, and presentations have historically included a mix of academic and research work as well as industrial applications.
Key industry organisations have chosen to support the conference, with ContiTech Australia, Fenner Conveyors, Kinder Australia, Flexco, Belt Wise, WAGENER Vulcanizers Australia, and Agilitus signing on as sponsors.
Harris said the conference would be of particular interest for a wide range of industries, including mining, power generation, chemicals, agriculture, energy, and food.
“Other benefits of attending the conference include professional development hours and networking with other experts in the field,” she said.
“By attending, you diversify your expertise and knowledge in materials handling concepts and can stay up to date with the latest developments in industry and bulk solids research.”
The conference offers attendees an unmatched opportunity to network and learn from industry leaders.
“It is a must-attend event that will help to further the sector as a whole”, says Harris.
The ICBMH 2026 is organised by Australian Society for Bulk Solids Handling (ASBSH) whose aim is to promote cooperation between universities, research establishments, consultants, equipment manufacturers, suppliers and industrial users.
It also aims to provide a national focus and forum for its members to discuss the practice of bulk solids handling.
The 15th ICBMH will be held at Rydges’ Esplanade Hotel in Fremantle, which is a 30-minute car ride from Perth’s airport and registrations are now open through the conference website
