Kockums unveils new fill head with perfect seal

Kockums Bulk Systems (KBS) has developed a fill head that is completely sealed against very fine free flowing powder.

Kockums Bulk Systems (KBS) has developed a fill head that is completely sealed against very fine free flowing powder.

Testing with rice protein powder found the seal had zero leakage, with the discharge of the product dust free.

It developed the technology because of the growing popularity of bulk bags, also known as flexible intermediate bulk containers, for users where products aren’t available in bulk transport or when the cost and manual handling issues are against the use of smaller bags and sacks.

While bulk bags are to transport and move around a factory with forklifts, special equipment is needed to discharge the content into the process.

Kockums has been designing and making bulk bag dischargers for over 20 years varying degrees of success.

The process usually starts with loading the bulk bag on the discharger followed by opening the bottom spout to let product flow out. Problems can arise in this step, such as powder leaking from the fill head, and the ease of connecting the bag to the discharge spout can be critical.

KBS’ new fill head has been developed over several months to create an easy to use, ergonomic, safe and dust free design.

Over the past nine months, KBS has supplied a number of new fill heads, which have been getting positive feedback from customers.
