Heavy materials handling conveyor provider NEPEAN Conveyors has been awarded a contract from major coal miner Yancoal worth roughly $50 million.

NEPEAN has designed, developed and is installing a complete underground to surface conveyor system from Yancoal’s Moolarben Coal Complex in NSW, under the deal.

The company said it was chosen by Yancoal for its ability to provide a complete solution with a superior technical offering, that also met the miner’s need for urgent and reliable, on-time delivery.

The project will consist of an 1800mm wide drift conveyor, and 1800mm underground trunk conveyor, and three 1600mm wide underground maingate conveyors.

The system will handle 4500 tons per hour of production from the mine’s longwall system.

The contract was signed in February, but NEPEAN was only able to announced the deal recently. Construction works are set to be completed this month.

The Moolarben Coal Complex will have a full production capacity of 17mtpa of run of mine coal.
