Metso has established a new manufacturing site for rubber and poly-met mining consumable wear parts in Lithuania.

It will be located in the region of Šiauliai (Šiauliai län) in northern Lithuania and employ 80 people once operations.

Metso President of the Minerals Consumables business area Sami Takaluoma said the company needed to actively respond to changes in our competitive environment and improve its flexibility in fulfilling our mining customers’ needs globally.

“Based on our analysis, Lithuania has been identified as an attractive location for a new manufacturing hub. The closeness of our current customers in the Europe, Russia, Middle East and Africa region, efficient logistics network, sustainable operational environment and favorable market conditions were important criteria in the decision making.”

In 2019, Metso opened a Metso Business Services centre in Vilnius, the capital of Lithuania. The MBS centre offers services for Metso’s finance operations and customer logistics. Currently the centre employs about 80 experts.

The factory is set to start operations by the second quarter of 2020.
