South Australian grain handler Viterra says an additional weighbridge at its Two Wells site will improve turnaround times for lentil growers and export customers this harvest.

Viterra said on November 10 the $100,000 investment means the site, 40 kilometres north of Adelaide, now has two weighbridges, helping to improve efficiencies at the busiest time of the year.

Two Wells is a specialist container packing site, which takes grower receivals of lentils while also packing commodities for multiple exporters.

“More and more lentils are being sown in the region and two weighbridges will allow us to continue to meet this increasing demand,” Viterra’s Adelaide operations manager Neil Carr said.

“We want to make sure growers can get back to the paddock as quickly as possible, while also improving efficiencies for pulse buyers and exporters.

“Viterra has multiple exporters operating within its system which provides a competitive environment for growers to sell their grain. The new weighbridge will make truck movements for all parties much smoother and speed up turnaround time.”

Carr said the new weighbridge was the latest in a string of recent investments made by Viterra into its network.

“In addition to infrastructure investments across the state, we have purchased millions of dollars’ worth of equipment in the past two years including 21 new front end loaders, four new drive-over-hopper and stacker sets and more than 50 conveyor belt upgrades for the benefit of the full grain supply chain.”
