NORD DRIVESYSTEMS has announced a performance upgrade to its UNICASE worm gear units, enhancing torque output by 10 to 15 per cent without altering the units’ external dimensions.
The upgrade delivers higher power density and improved reliability, all while maintaining compatibility with existing systems.
The German-based drive technology leader supplies innovative, customisable drive solutions to more than 100 industries worldwide. The latest development offers customers greater efficiency and operational flexibility, without the need for redesign or reinstallation of existing systems.
“With the increased performance of our UNICASE worm gear units, we could create enormous added value without additional costs for our customers,” NORD DRIVESYSTEMS head of marketing Jörg Niermann said.

The increased performance is achieved through engineering refinements that include new worm shafts with larger bearing seats and a reinforced worm wheel.
These changes allow for a power range of 0.12 kW to 15 kW and torque ratings between 90 Nm and 3000 Nm – without modifying the outer (connection) dimensions of the gear units.
This enables the worm gear units to continue serving as drop-in replacements for existing applications, reducing installation time and minimising downtime during maintenance or upgrades. For new installations, smaller gear units can now be selected depending on the load requirements, helping customers save on space and cost.
Other notable features of the UNICASE worm gear series include smooth and quiet operation, robust design, high overload capacity, and the ability to withstand high axial and radial loads.
The gear units are available in various configurations, including hollow and solid shaft versions, and can be mounted on the shaft, flange, or foot. They can also be combined with NORD’s electric motors or connected via IEC/NEMA adapters to provide an integrated, application-specific drive solution.
