Pilbara Ports Authority delivered a record annual throughput of 633.5 million tonnes for the 2015-2016 financial year – an increase of 13mt, or 2% over the previous year.

This June alone Pilbara’s monthly throughput was 55.9mt, an increase of 1.8mt over June 2015, or 3%.

Looking specifically at Port Hedland, its throughput for the past financial year increased 3% to some 460mt.

It was no surprise that iron ore made up the lion’s share of the port’s exports, accounting for 454.2mt, an increase of 14.6mt, or 3% from the previous year.

And, Port Hedland’s June figures showed a 9% increase over last year, with a record throughput of 42.4mt – 3.3mt more than June 2015.

The region’s other major iron or export site, the Port of Dampier, saw an annual throughput of 173.1mt last year, which was a slight increase of 200,000 tonnes over the previous year.
