A major iron ore mine has run a side by side test to find an alternative to its current skirting and was so impressed by one solution, it changed its specifications across the site.

The mine was determined to find an alternative to its current polyurethane soft skirting, which was becoming severely damaged and ineffective after five days.

It decided to trial an alternative polyurethane skirting from Flexco with a side by side trial, where both products were tested against multiple impact zones.

The two types of skirting trialled were both of the same thickness and material, used on a screening conveyor that was 1200 millimetres wide, 20 millimetres thick, four ply and with a speed of 2.5 metres per second.

After the five-day trial, the miner found Flexco’s solution was superior, as the other product began to tear within the five days of installation. Flexco’s polyurethane formula is poured in-house, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and impressed the site so much it changed the specifications to the Flexco product.
