Port of Brisbane operations resume following ex-Cyclone Alfred

Container logistics operations through the Port of Brisbane resumed limited operations early Monday March 10 despite heavy rain, flooding and extensive power loss caused by ex-Cyclone Alfred.

Port of Brisbane update:

In an update issued at 1645hr on Sunday March 09, the Port of Brisbane advised that there have been no reports of serious storm damage or severe weather impacts on port infrastructure, and that access to the Port’s landside facilities is unhindered.

Sunday – the Regional Harbour Master shifted status from “Red” to “Yellow” allowing some vessel movements within the channel area.

The Port has also observed that due to the region expecting to receive very large volumes of rainfall over the coming days, adding to the already large volumes of surface water on roads, all port stakeholders should stay off the road if possible. If vehicle movements are required, please use extra caution over the days ahead.

Container terminals and empty container depot status:

Patrick Brisbane Terminal: commencing road receival & delivery from 0600hr on Monday, 10 March – only receiving exports for nominated vessels known to be able to enter the Port and work within the next 48 hours – i.e. MSC LIDIA & ANL KIWI TRADER. Several vessels have omitted Brisbane due to TC Alfred, including MSC MANU and MSC DARWIN
Hutchison Brisbane: has advised that the Terminal will be open from 0800hr, Monday, 10 March, with export receivals for the ELA and OOCL KUALA LUMPUR recommencing.
DP World Brisbane: has advised that it will remain closed until 1500hr, Monday, 10 March (subject to change).

It has also been advised that NYK Fushimi V130 will omit Brisbane.

Several CTAA Alliance transport companies have advised their customers that they will be resuming some operations, despite many employees dealing with road access issues and school closures, etc.

Some staff will be working remotely, and road access remains a significant concern, impacting on delivery timeframes.
