A unique railway-conveyor system will be installed at a Canadian mine, manufacturer Rail-Veyor has announced.
Rail-Veyor Technologies Global recently announced it has signed a contract to install a Rail-Veyor system at Agnico Eagle’s Goldex Mine in Val-d’Or, Quebec, Canada.
The 3km underground material handling system will be installed during 2016, and is intended to be operational in early 2017.
Rail-Veyor’s system features semi-cylindrical cars linked by flexible flaps, which prevent leakage and form an open trough capable of continuous movement along a light rail track.
The Florida-based manufacturer says the system can offer a high degree of design flexibility with a competitive capital cost.
Cost is reduced through efficiencies of the light rail system over traditional truck or rail haulage, as well as low operating and maintenance costs, high reliability, and safe automated continuous operation, the company says.
Ease of maintenance, energy efficiency and superior environmental performance relative to competing technologies add further value, according to the US firm.
Rail-Veyor says the system will provide the New York- and Toronto-listed Agnico Eagle with leading edge material handling as part of its new Deep 1 project at the Goldex mine.
“We thank Agnico Eagle for being an industry innovator and showing leadership in bringing new technology improvements to underground mining,” Rail-Veyor’s vice president of sales and marketing Frank Ward said.
The Goldex project includes a mine and processing plant. It has proven and probable reserve of 300,000 ounces of gold; spread across 7.1 million tonnes grading 1.5 grams of gold per tonne as of December 2014.
