RKM Roller Company has collaborated with an Australian composite fibre company to develop a heavy-duty, lightweight composite shell.
The shell has been specifically formulated to provide flexural strength comparable to steel with significant weight reduction.
A unique pull-winding process is used to provide superior flexural strength, light weight and wear resistance.
Electrical-corrosion resistant glass was used as the initial building block for all conveyor tube applications, due to its impressive strength performance, workability, and chemical resistant characteristics.
To bind the glass fibres together, a vinyl ester (VE) resin is used. VE resin was selected over unsaturated polyester and epoxy resins because it provides strength and chemical resistant properties similar to epoxy resin.

The RKM HD Bearing Housings are designed to withstand the large loads experienced in the iron ore industry. RKM has incorporated its RS seal package along with a primary heavy-duty nylon protective outer dual labyrinth shield, which aims to eliminate any rock jamming and provides additional protection against the ingress of contaminants. The housings come complete with an anti-static copper insert.
The company’s manufacturing process and computerised dynamic balancing machine enables it to produce a dynamically balanced roller which meets AS3709 G16.
The solid resilient polyester nylon housings absorb any vibration within the bearing housing and minimise any internal noise generated from the roller shell and bearing rotation, reducing noise generated from the belt running across the surface of the roller.
